February 7th I attended a great event – the Kickoff reception for the public portion of an 8.2 million dollar Capital campaign to expand and improve the Clark County Family YMCA’s Orchard’s facility. Improvements include a six lane lap pool, an indoor running track, upgraded lockers, an enclosed youth center, and of finally , a coveted wooden basketball floor.
The Y has already raised 5.6 of the 8.2 million dollars required to complete the project, and expect the remaining 2.6 million to come within the first six months of 2014.
You can read more details by clicking this link for a story by the Vancouver Business Journal. This is great news on a number of fronts. Clearly an 8 million dollar construction project for Clark County and RSV Building Solutions is a boost to our economy. Second this Orchards neighborhood really is underserved with places for youth and families to gather and share time. The expected increase in membership will also help boost surounding businesses.
As a long time Board Member of the Clark County Branch of the Y, there are many Thank yous and kudo’s to hand out. The Board of Trustees of the Columbia Willamette Association in Portland, the ASO Staff, Eddie White our local Executive Director, Ron Frederiksen and Terry (Murphy) Frederiksen were all key players. Carol Terell and Ruth Bennett thank you for your tireless leadership. I’m also going to say that Mike Westby and Mike Wilson were instrumental, and Russell Brent … you built the foundation and moved the pieces into place to create the critical mass to make this happen.
