SWCA – Great 2012 – High Expectations 2013

The South West Washington Contractors Association held their annual Holiday Banquet  at the Heathman Lodge this past Friday November 30th.

Being the first Friday after the Thanksgiving  Holiday, this event certainly  kicked off the Holiday Event Season here in Clark County with great enthusiasm.  In fact now that I think about it, this group displayed a similar enthusiasm at their Association Golf Tournament this past fall.  I think that’s just the way they roll.  Of course it didn’t hurt that Sonny Parsons of Cascade Flooring was also providing some of his most recent freshly brewed Craft Beers at his new venture Heathen Brewing.   He’s clearly got a good touch.

2012 has provided the Association with a sense of growing momentum.  This comes both from an increase in membership and an improving economy.  According to Executive Director Mike Bomar SWCA has almost doubled in membership this calendar year.  A tribute to strong leadership at both the Executive Director &  staff level, and a very active and engaged Board.

To highlight examples of strong leadership   Amy Baze Davis was recognized as the Member of the Year – which  could easily be transformed into a Member of the Decade as she has given outstanding  service in many capacities for the past fourteen years. Ron King was recognized as Contractor of the Year.

I had an interesting conversation at my dinner table.  As often happens when you are meeting new people, you share your  perspectives and experiences of what is occuring in your corner of the business  universe.  I sat with some folks, who I won’t name, but who have a very size able presence in Clark County, and do business all across the globe.  I asked the senior executive (25 years in his industry) who was the host of the table his perspective of what the next year or two would bring.

He responded  that from the indicators his company uses, the plans they were making, and the activities they were observing in their marketplaces, it was his belief people were going  to be shocked at how improved business levels  would be over the next two years.    Inspite of the concern by many about the election results I querried?   He said that will have minimal impact and people worry way too much.

So I’m going to use that as a benchmark to help plan my 2013- plan on more growth and more activity.
